SyncBoy - Privacy Policy
Effective Date: February 21, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to SyncBoy. We respect your privacy and are committed to transparency about how the app handles your data. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
No Collection of Personal Data
SyncBoy does not request, capture, or store any personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, account credentials, or device identifiers. We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks. No data is sent to our servers or any third party.
On-Device Processing
All emulation, rendering, audio processing, and AI gameplay features run entirely on your device. ROM files you import remain in the app's sandboxed storage on your device and are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared. Save states, battery saves, and settings are stored locally on your device only.
Camera Access
SyncBoy requests camera access only when you load a Game Boy Camera (Pocket Camera) cartridge ROM. The camera feed is processed entirely on-device to generate Game Boy-resolution images for the emulated camera sensor. Camera frames are never recorded, stored, or transmitted. You can deny camera access at any time; the game will use a test pattern instead.
Photo Library Access
SyncBoy requests write-only access to your photo library solely to save Game Boy Printer output images when you choose to do so via the "Save to Photos" option. The app does not read or browse your existing photos. No images are transmitted or shared.
Local Network Access
The Link Cable multiplayer feature uses Apple's Multipeer Connectivity framework to discover and communicate with nearby devices over the local network. This peer-to-peer connection is established directly between devices. No data passes through external servers. The only data exchanged is emulated serial link cable bytes required for multiplayer gameplay. Network discovery is active only while the Link Cable feature is in use.
Apple Watch Communication
When streaming gameplay to Apple Watch, SyncBoy uses Apple's WatchConnectivity framework to send compressed game frames and receive controller input between your iPhone and Apple Watch. This communication happens over Apple's secure device-to-device channel. No gameplay data is sent to external servers.
In-App Purchases
SyncBoy offers an optional one-time "Pro Pack" purchase processed entirely through Apple's App Store infrastructure. We do not collect, store, or have access to any payment or billing information. Purchase status is verified using Apple's StoreKit 2 framework on-device.
AI Play Feature
The AI Play feature uses on-device neural network inference to play games autonomously. All model training and inference runs locally using Apple's Accelerate framework. No gameplay data, model weights, or training information is transmitted to any server.
Children's Privacy
Since SyncBoy does not collect any personal data, it is suitable for users of all ages. Parental or guardian supervision is recommended for younger users regarding ROM content.
Data Security
SyncBoy is designed so that no user data leaves your device. All game data, saves, and settings are stored within the app's sandboxed container. This architecture minimizes risk of data breaches or unauthorized access.
Changes to This Policy
If we modify our data practices in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly and note the new effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
